Hi all... It's been a long time... Since my trip to SA and due to the recent Blog server maintenance... I've taken a more-than-enuff Blog-break... It will be almost a week before I'll be leaving on my Thailand exercise also... That would last for abt less than a month... This would abt complete my NSF tour-round-1/10th-of-the-world trip... Heh!
South Africa was absolutely stunning... Lovely and beautiful... When I first arrived... I was awe-struck my the vast land surrounding me... Semi-dessert for as far as I could see... When I was watching LOTR 2... I always thought to myself... How beautiful the landscape was... Those vast open land... Where 1 can ride on a horseback for hours and yet not see a single concrete building... Undisturbed greenery at its charming best... In SA it was almost the same... Except for the electrical lines that ran from a town to another along side a tarred road... The "Table Mountain" and hilly landscape is truly a sight to behold...
You could see zebras and gazelles running in herds wild and free... You could see ostriches scattered all around... Some of them on a death-wish challenging buses and cars to a race and cutting across the road when you least expect it... There was an explaination to this... Imagine the bus to be a lion or a leopard... If the ostrich is to turn and run AWAY form it... It would give the "lion/leopard" more gain time on it and catch up with it... But if the ostrich is to run towards you and turn at the very last moment... If the predator misses it at that instance then it would take a very long time to run around and chase after it again... Similarly... The ostrich is trying to avoid the bus @ the very last minte... And oh how often it fails... BTW an ostrich is a very heavy bird... Abt 200++ kg and a head-on collision by a car would leave both the bird and the driver dead... So SLOW down when you see an ostrich when driving in such countries... Dun try them man~!!!
The skies are clear so UV radiation is usually at a dangerously high level there... Many of the locals suffer from skin cancer due to excessive exposure to the sun... You could also tell if a weather was building up... We were fortunate not to have a cold front (A very long rain with strong winds almost like a storm...) over there... The sunlight is particularly WHITE over there... Thanks to Guohui's Oakleys... Without it I would have become 1/2 blind or colour-blind by now... THANKS GUOHUI~!!! The rest of the guys went to a place called Harmanas before I arrived... A dining seafood restaurant built high at the edge of a cliff with a world-class view of the ocean front... Absolutely lovely too... The locals say... During certain times of the year you could actually see humpback whales mating down in tbe ocean below... Constantly surfacing and flipping out of the water... Goodness I can almost imagine such a sight... I was so lucky as to go to a nearby beach there near our place of residence... Arniston Beach... Absolutely stunning and lovely too... Nothing like I've ever seen... Pure white fine sand @ the beach with waves constantly crashing against the jagged cliff like those you see on postcards... Those houses built there are vintage and have a awesome view every morning and evening... Whoosh~! I would live there one fine day... If not for their high crime rate there... Which brings me to my next point...
SA, unfortunately, is not as picture perfect as I've described it to be... It has a very high crime rate... There's a growing unrest between the Blacks and the more-wealthy Whites there... And due to discrimination and exculsive rights given to the Whites... A very sad story for their people I reckon... Shootouts and stabbing incidents are common and an everyday affair... Their 4 local hospitals' A&E department clock very high counts of cases of patients with gunshot and multiple stabbings... Mostly assaulted in the streets... It was rumoured that even stopping @ a traffic light could get you killed cos there'll be people pouncing on unsuspecting drivers stopping at a junction... I heard there was once a pregnant lady who stopped @ a traffic light... Was shot 6 times in her abdomen and robbed... She managed to drive off after that and was rushed to the hospital... Both the baby and the lady survived... GEEZ~!!! The number of rape cases is also extremely high... Abt 62 a day for a normal town... Which is rather disturbing... Imagine yourself to be a husband there... I wonder how can they ever work in peace if they know that anytime someone might juz climb thru the window and have a go @ your wife... And if you return home after a day of work... If your wife isn't raped today then you should count yourself lucky to be in the 50% whose wife wasn't raped... Tomolo would be yet another chapter in the story...
Poverty is also one of the major concerns there... The country's big... Some of them have to walk for hours dressed in suit and tie every morning to get to work... They cant afford a transport sometimes... Some of them on their way home rummage thru garbage to look for leftover food... They put it in a plastic bag and bring it home... Disgusting and unhygenic it may seem to you but that's food and way of life for some of them there... This trip has certainly humbled me a lot and placed me in a more understanding position to sympathize with others and treasure the things around me... Easier said than done... Sometimes I think I ought to be shot for asking so much from my parents... Sigh... Berd-O'Berd...
Well I bought myself an ostrich egg with a drawing of SA's Big 5... The elephant, lion, buffalo, rhino and leopard... Very beautiful... Very lovely... I bought some magnets too and a $100+ SA rugby jersey... Heh~!!! Loved that one to bits~!!! ^^
Met XiuYan a couple of times after coming back... Really nice to see her again... Watched "8 Miles" with her... Enimen is such a genius with words and music... Failed my TP yet again with 28 points and an immediate failure... Sigh... Bastard assessor... I dun think I was judged that fairly... Oh well... F@RK him and let me get on with my life...

Well this is it... 13th Jan 2003... The day the high-flying, "Eagle-scheme", super-lucky yet infinitely dissatisfied NSF goes for a live firing exercise in South Africa... Craving his name down in stone in the history of Project BlueBird... And being the 1st NSF to go on a live firing exercise... (You sure?) Putting his Regular compatriots to shame with his achievements thus far... (WAT ACHIEVEMENTS?!) *Berd oh Berd... Be glad for all that you have...*
Totally cant wait to see wat SA has to offer... Paid a visit to the library to read up and look up what's in store for me... Looked pretty good... Heh... I'm gonna bring my bro's digicam there... So you guys and gals (See I'm no sexist~!!!) can expect to see pictures being linked up on my Blog soon enuff~!!! But then again that's only after I'm back on the 24th that is... Definitely will tell you guys abt the beautiful city exciting people and interesting culture there... Stay tuned~!!!
Met her again last night for dinner and movie (With Nachos of course... EXTRA CHEESE TOO~!!!) Watched 2 Weeks Notice... Sandra was oh-so lovely in the movie... Grant too was charming... Really lovely romantic comedy... 1 of the better movies I've watched so far... (Or rather as far as I can remember...) Had a little pep talk with her till late at night... Sigh... Dun think she has too good an impression abt the kind of guy I really am... Sometimes I really wonder... Am I really the #--$-%-& I've portrayed myself to be? Geez... *Slaps forehead in despair...* Like I've said... "I'm not as bad as you think... But I'm not that good either..." Hopefully... Someone somehow can understand and have that blind faith in me like wat a true partner would do... Until then... To SingleHood~!!! (Yah rite~!!!)

Geez~!!! I received one heck of a message on Thursday afternoon after coming out of a meeting as secretary... My Sir telling me I'm flying off on Monday 13th Jan for South Africa... GEEZ~!!!
This overseas exercise proved to be very disruptive to my plans... Was initially planned to go on another exercise that will promise me abt 1k in allowance on top of my basic monthly pay... Hence I can confidently say I'll come back @ least 1.5k richer or so~!!! And this money can go a long way in my plans to purchase a bike~!!! But now that I'm being included in this SA trip... My chances of being included in the other exercise have gone extremely slim... ( -_- ) Worse of all... There will not be any allowance for this exercise... Geez...
Upon touching down... I will only have 2 practices before my TP on 29th... Goodness I certainly hope this isn't yet another show-stopper for my Class 3 license... Came back form work late after settling all the stuffs that needs to be tied up before leaving... Gonna WC3 till the cows come home... Juz to make sure I wun miss the game when I'm there~!!!

I dunno which one will hold true for me... Being the action-adventure craving guy I am... I dun know seriously if I'm gonna miss the food people and games here... Perhaps there's so much more in South Africa that will captivate me? Only time will tell... BE GONE!

Passed my Class 2 lesson 5~!!! WeEeEeEe~!!! Did really well Haha... Thought the narrow plank was really hard to balance on... Realised that you can actually "cheat" on that... The difficulties lies with the low speed control whereby you have to balance on the bike on and travel on the narrow plank of abt 7 metres for not less than 7 secs... Well knowing that the timing starts when the front tyre touches the plank and only after the back tyre leaves the plank... You can so call "cheat" by mounting the plank @ a rather high speed and slowly brake your way till the end of the plank... Heh... Works perfectly fine for me... Hopefully too for the test...
Had a satisfying day @ work today... Presented to my Sir on the things I'm gonna do for him and what he should expect from me at the end of the month... Really pleased with what I've learned and mastered with Powerpoint... Sadly the things he requested for is rather far-fetched... Dun think I can deliver what he requested... But it's worthed trying anyway... I've got a month for this but with exercises and motor / driving lessons scheduled all over January... I'm not too hopeful... As Lord Herbert would say... "The shortest answer is doing." Let me juz put my doubts and "no"-devils to rest and juz set my mind to getting this mammoth-scale project complete... COMPLETE~!!!
Xiu Yan shared with me the funny incidents she encountered today... Really silly of her to mis-read her time-tables TWICE and end up going to school 5 hours early and yet 1 hour late for lessons... Sheesh~!!! Haha... She ended up shopping anyway... Goodness... Still I enjoyed her laughters over the phone... Hehez...

I've noticed myself being quite an impatient rider man... DAMN~!!! PATIENCE MY YOUNG PADAWAN... SPEEDING WILL GET YOU NOWHERE BUT 6 FEET UNDERGROUND~!!! (Geez... It's time I remembered that but it's harder than it sounds... Serious~!!!)

Soccer in the morning with RECCOS was great... Except for the fact that I've lost my touch while the others still have theirs... Sigh... I guess they have been playing soccer more frequently in camps than me huh? Lucky bastards... Oh well... Scored a beauty nevertheless... Although Xuanwei thought that was so much of a fluke... Well a goal's a goal... "It doesn't matter if you win by a yard or by a mile... Winning's winning..." So there~!
Watched Lord of The Rings 2 : The Two Towers for the second time... This time with her @ West Mall... The cinema's rather small and worse or all... They dun serve my fav NACHOS with CHEESE?~! Geez... Sworn never to patronise Eng Wah ever again... Geez watching a movie for the second time is really dead boring... You know the outcome of every battle and fight... And almost every other line... Wondered how those fanatics actually watched Titanic and the Star Wars series over and over again... Kept myself occupied and stealing occasional glances @ her... Hehez... She's very much into the show juz like me when I watched it for the very 1st time... Haha... Btw... It was terribly cold in there... SHEESH~!!!
Tonight marks the rise of Berd's Orc man... Trained hard on the cheesy tactic whereby a player juz mass shamans and docs with triple heroes OR docs heroes and some tier 1 units... OR shamans taurens and heroes... All of them work fine... Juz depends on which strategy the opponent uses... You should choose the best combi mentioned above to counter it... Almost flawless I would say... As I train to make myself a complete all round player... I hope my Warcraft3 spirit doesn't die off... "My life for Nazoo~!!!"

Today's working day is a mistake... Shouldn't be back on a Saturday to work by Berd's NSF principles but by the slip of my tongue... And a promise to a Sir... I had to go back to camp today to sort out the exercise instructions that they need oh-so-badly... Oh well... Juz a bit more to go...
Came back @ abt 1630 hrs feeling extremely tired... Fell straight into bed and woke up only @ 2130 hrs... Was supposed to meet Xiu Yan and her frens for dinner but slept thru it YET AGAIN BERD... Sigh... Felt really bad abt this one.. But what could I do man? I mean... Warcraft 3 till 4am in the morning and off to work @ 7 the usual time... Even the night elves need rest man~!!! I'm human afterall... But maybe I should tone down on the Warcraft3 a little bit huh? We'll see... Sleeping early tonight for soccer tomolo @ Lim Bang with RECCOS... Nite all~!!!

IPPT GOLD
Took my IPPT this evening... A very LAST MINUTE decision which makes the Gold even more endearing... Cant believe after such a long time w/o constant exercise... I am still capable of a GOLD... Did 10 pull-ups... 50 sit-ups (With loads of time to spare...) 243cm for SBJ (Standing board jump...) 9.7 for shuttle-run and an above-average timing of 9m32s for my 2.4 km run... Heh... I guess there's a Himura Kenshin in me huh? =D
Had a rather bad day @ BBDC... Was late for my motor lesson (What was your New Year's Resolution again Berd?) and like many other days... It started raining and we had to put on our raincoats... Which is very irritating cos not only it restricts our movements... The raincoats stinks like crazy as well~!!! Geez.... I joined the wrong class for the 1st 10 minutes... Which is kind of silly... And when I left the group after realising that... I rode right into a series of humps which is one of the courses meant for riders who have completed the many other courses... The instructor there and then must have had a good laugh seeing a nOObish rider trying his luck @ an advanced course... Haha... Damn it... Good thing I didn't fall off my bike man... Geez... When will my cockanathan nature ever run dry?~!
Met her for dinner yesterday with Shareefah and her Mauritius boyfriend... She gave me a box of Tussils... (What in the world is Tussils? Like myself... I juz found out that it's actually cough drops with some medication in it to help your cough recover...) How sweet... She was rather tired throughout the evening... Sent her home after dinner cos I felt she needed a rest badly... She wasn't exactly generous with her smiles and laughs this time around as I would like her to be... Maybe it was fatigue... Maybe it was me~!!! Nah... Most probably not...
7 more months to ORD... 7 MORE MONTHS TO ORD~!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL~!!!
Had a good run-in to the New Year 2003... Went out with a sweet lovely gal for dinner on the eve... Xiu Yan... A former JJCian too... (Wonders how did I miss her in school man... Sheesh~!!!) We ate Sakae Sushi above HMV... (Dun know what that building is called... Heerens is that it? I'm a Orchard Road nOOb...) As with any other appointment... I was late as usual... And mind you this was our 1st time meeting one another... Felt so bad abt it as I walked to her... She still managed a smile as we greeted one another but I thought I must have been a real nasty guy to be late for dates and make a gal wait... Goodness Berd... Had a great time humouring her... Thought her smile and laugh was really sweet... d ( ^o^ ) b
Joined RECCOS (Shaowei Guosen Philip Jason Jeff) @ Zouk for the Countdown... Something I really regretted... The music was terrible... The crowd was irritating... (Especially those Malays wobbling on stage thinking that they were the kewl-est people alive in Zouk that night...) Totally spoiled my New Year countdown... The countdown there was almost non-existant... And the show put up by those 2 "God-knows-wat"s was so distasteful... I couldn't bear watching it any longer I juz left the place for a drink and some cough drops @ a nearby 7-11... We eventually left Zouk way before their closing time for some supper before heading for my home for yet another night of Mahjong... Hehez~!!! I wonder if Thailand's RCA had set such a high standard for me in terms of the clubbing scenes so much so that I dun enjoy my clubbing time here or am I really past it? Watever it was... I certainly didn't enjoy myself 1 bit last night...
Soccer on a New Year's day seems appealing... Woke up early anticipating the trials for my newly bought PAN-brand boots from Thailand... Thought the match would be @ SAJC... Saint Andrew's Junior College... Was horrified to find out that the match is actually @ SAJS... Saint Andrew's Junior School... Somewhere in Potong Pasir, Toa Payoh... WAH PIANGZ?@! Took a cab down to play... Decided not to be too fussy abt such a mis-comms... It was after all a new year and the countdown was bad enuff... Dun want to make it worse for myself by being frustrated and angry... Had a really good match... Came || this close to scoring... A beautiful cross that came in was met by my lethal right foot... A perfectly timed volley... But an even better save... (Or so he thought...) The keeper came out of nowhere and threw his body across the goalmouth... As I pulled my hair in disbelieve... He threw his hands up into the air in jubilation... Nice luck keeper... We won nevertheless... 6-2 the final score... Had my fair share of touches and contributions to the team... Assisted in 4 of the goals scored... ^^, Thrilled to see Ah Loi and Wenqiu after so long... But @ quite a price... (Took a cab down remember?) More importantly... I think I've found the perfect boots... The soul-mate for my feet to kick the ball around with... Defenders BEWARE~!!!
New Year Resolution:
Well my New Year's resolution... Is none other than making a genuine effort not to be late and on time... For @ least 66.7% of the appointments made... Obviously this came about after being late for my date with her... Felt really bad about it... I've been so late so often in 2002... And during my trip to Thailand... I realised that the Thais are very particular abt punctuality and mannerisms... They are such nice, polite and respectful people... And they're never late... Unlike us... Shame on us... Well I'm determined to put this all behind now and be like a Thai... (If I dun oredi look like one...) Hopefully it lasts...
Once again I wish all readers a Blessed New Year and may you rejoice in the year of the... Watever...
